One of the most important figures in African-American history, Larry Doby will be remembered for breaking the color barrier in the American League in 1947. During a 13-year major league playing career, Doby was a reliable outfielder who earned seven All-Star selections. In 1948, he batted .301 with 14 home runs and 66 runs batted in and helped the Indians win the World Series when he hit the game-winning home run in the fourth game of the series. With many courageous achievements marking his life, Doby will be fondly remembered. In 1998, Doby was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, where his contributions will be honored for many years to come. Upper Deck pays tribute to Doby with this 'Historical Beginnings' figurine.
